What you see in the model

In the model the figure hangs high on the wall by the large staircase, just below the glass roof, with its feet in the wall and its face turned down towards the stairs.

The figure is small compared with the building around it. Look up as you climb the stairs, or it is easy to miss.

About the work

Antony Gormley (b. 1950) is a British sculptor, known for human figures in iron that are often cast from his own body.

“Edge II” dates from 2000 and measures 194 × 57 × 29 centimetres. Instead of standing on the ground, the figure sticks straight out from the wall. The work is on loan from the Selvaag Art Collection.

Practical information

The work stands outdoors in the sculpture park at the far end of Tjuvholmen, around Astrup Fearnley Museet. The park is free and open all year round. The nearest tram stop is Aker brygge by Rådhusplassen.
